After sixteen years of living here, we are still discovering new places and new things to do. Here are some of our favourites:
Isle sur la Sorgue (Sunday market) - Huge, colourful, traditional Provençal market set in and around a series of beautiful little rivers with crystal clear water. The energetic can hire a canoe and battle the current (great fun!). Terrific junk and antique stalls.
La Fontaine de Vaucluse - An underground source, origin unknown, that sends water cascading down the hill. Visit the water mill that still makes paper out of old cotton shirts.
Apt (Saturday Market) - High spot of the week and the very best of Provence. Every street is packed with stalls, buskers and people catching up on the week's events.
Beautiful Nearby Villages - Gordes, Menerbes, Lacoste and Bonnieux are stunning. Roussillon is a dazzling array of red, pink, russet and orange walls. Our neighbouring hilltop villages of Auribeau, Castellet, Caseneuve and Viens are charming. Take a picnic or a sketch pad: around every corner is another magical sight view!
Foret de Cedres - Spectacular cool cedar forest stretching for miles along a high ridge between Bonnieux, Lacoste and Menerbes. The perfect place for a long hike and a picnic.
